What is ABT

Founded in New York in 1939, American Ballet Theatre (ABT) is recognized globally as one of the world's six major ballet companies and is revered by ballet enthusiasts everywhere as a premier institution of the highest caliber. ABT is also deeply committed to ballet education and certification. Notably, the U.S. Congress has officially designated ABT as America's National Ballet Company through an act of legislation.

The ABT certification program represents the most advanced ballet examination curriculum in the world today. Developed through the collaboration of world-class ballet masters Mr. Franco and Mr. Raymond, the program is dedicated to providing students who love the art of ballet with the most scientifically grounded, systematic, and comprehensive classical ballet education and training.

Features of the ABT Examination Program

The curriculum integrates the finest elements from various classical ballet traditions—such as the Italian, French, British, and Russian schools—offering students broad exposure to diverse styles and strengths, thereby ensuring training that is both highly effective and globally aligned.

Student levels are strictly determined by age and duration of study. We place great emphasis on scientifically sound and healthy training methods, ensuring the highest professional standards while protecting children from injury.

ABT requires its instructors to undergo annual intensive training and certification renewal to stay abreast of the latest pedagogical developments, ensuring students receive world-class dance training and education.

Upon passing level examinations, students receive an internationally recognized certificate from ABT. This credential provides a significant advantage when applying to prestigious high schools or universities and competing for scholarships, helping students stand out from the crowd.

The Significance of Taking Proficiency Exams

Grading examinations serve to assess a child's progress and build their self-confidence. The examination process is significant in itself; the results offer validation and encouragement, and the resulting sense of achievement marks the beginning of true self-confidence!

The exam is a testament to the child's hard work. The process helps cultivate excellent character traits and fosters a sense of accomplishment born from dedicated effort. As pandemic restrictions have gradually eased, the children have participated in their first post-pandemic ballet examinations! Exams were held for both the Primary Level and Level 1. After completing a series of classes, our young dancers successfully finished their first in-person exams since the pandemic began. Mr. Flavio Salazar, an examiner from ABT, offered high praise and affirmation to the Sunshine candidates! Hard work yields sweet rewards; we look forward to seeing the children grow into beautiful "white swans" through their continued practice. 🩰
